Toyota RAV4 Prices Jump for 2013

2013 Rav4

Toyota has finally announced the pricing for the 2013 RAV4 and the 2013 RAV4 Limited AWD models and despite a bid to increase their market share, the price is higher than their competitors.

You may recall we told you that Toyota said they planned on increasing RAV4 sales in the US to 200,000 units in 2013. We speculated that they might consider lowering the price since their target was younger buyers.

We were wrong. Instead of lowering the prices on the 2013 Toyota RAV4, the motor company has now priced their vehicles above the same two models they said they were planning to steal customers from.

The 2013 Toyota RAV4 starts at $24,145 and the RAV4 Limited AWD starts at $29,255.

Below is a price comparison table for the Toyota RAV4 and their biggest competitors, the Ford Escape and the Mazda CX-5.

Here’s where Toyota went wrong.

2013 Mazda CX-5 Sport2013 Mazda CX-5 Sport in bright blue

  1. The Mazda CX-5 is all new and novelty goes a long way for younger buyers. Its nimble features and bright color options make the CX-5 stand out against the stock images of the “gray-black-mud” color Toyota uses so often.
  2. The 2013 Mazda CX-5 starts at $3,150 less than the 2013 Toyota RAV4 and for just $50 more than the price of the RAV4 you can upgrade from the 2013 CX-5 Sport to the CX-5 Touring.

Ford Escape

3.The Ford Escape, which outperforms the Toyota RAV4 consistently, has an MSRP that is $1,675 less than the RAV4.

4.Even with the redesign of the 2013 Toyota RAV4, it still looks like a cheaper SUV in terms of appearance and aesthetics.

Something tells us that Toyota may be looking at disappointing sales figures in 2013. We will have to wait and see just how well the younger buyers respond to these higher priced RAV4 models.
